Revised plan turned down
A REVISED plan for the erection of six one- person cottages at Wad- dington Hospital has been thrown out by members of the Ribble Valley Council’s De v e lopm en t S u b - committee, who over ruled the recommenda tions of tile Borough Planning and Technical officer.
The plan proposed the
building of three cot tages on each of the two wings nearest the road.
Councillors heeded
the views of local resi dents, who felt that the development would be seriously detrimental to the character of the Conservation Area. The felling of two
trees and lopping of seven others would also have taken place and constituted a significant loss to the locality. Conn. Mrs Joyce Lil- burn (Bolton-by - Bow-
land) commented on the historical setting of the Almshouses. She agreed with Coun. Erie Bracewell (Clitheroe) | when lie said the de velopment “affects the very vital centre of 1 Waddington.”
Coun. Bracewell re-1
ferret! to the unsuitabil ity of the first two un successful plans and added: “ I cannot believe that this slight modifica tion is sufficient to make [ it acceptable” .
The continual submis
sion of relatively nil- changed plans was seen by Conn. Howel Jones (C l i th e r o e ) as an | attempt by the develop ers to “wear down” the committee.
. Coun. Bill Fleming
( I! i 11 i n g t o n) a 1 s o | opposed the application. saying:“There is a need for this type of acco mmodation hut in the | right place.”
