Club infringed midnight ban inquiry is told
THE siting of the Clitheroe Rugby Union Club off Littlemoor Road is unfair to both residents and players, a planning inquiry in Clitheroe was told.
TOUGH LINE
VANDALISM in Sabden is getting out of hand, con cerned parish councillors agreed when they heard about incidents of damage and destruction and the setting on fire of the rub bish skip on the village car park. Chairman Coun. Alf
Parsons said: “Something needs to be done about this as soon as possible.” The toilets have been
ARLEY VILLAGE HALL S U N D A Y ,
the target for several inci dents recently. The cul prits have tried to set alight both the wooden bench outside the toilets and the lightbulbs, have broken a toilet bowl and thrown stones around inside. Allotments at the back
of Wesley Street have been attacked and the Fire Brigade had to be called out when the rubbish skip
was set alight. Members know who the
culprits are, in some cases, and they want the police to take action. Councillors are also con
cerned about reports from two members of the public who, on separate occa sions, claimed they had been shot at by someone on a local farm while they were walking their dogs on a lead. Great concern was expressed about this matter.

Non-Membera Welcome ^ ^ A A / S A A A A n SATURDAY, The dub was appealing
against a Ribble Valley Council claim that it failed to comply with a planning condition ami allowed functions to continue after midnight.
R e s i d e n t - Mr E r i c
Fuller, of Litllemnor Road, said that he and his wife had been disturbed up to 2-15 a.m. by the sound of car doors, music and voices. He lived 90 yards away and knew of complaints from at least six neighbours.
Some were not at the
inquiry because they were frightened of repercus sions from the club.
The pitch was too small
and it was unfair to both parties for Ribhle Valley Council to have agreed to its use for rugby in the first place, he added.
Council planning assis
tant Mr Laurence Wil- braham said it had been clear the club was under no confusion about the order. Infringements of the midnight ban had con tinued and an enforce ment notice was served.
Borough solicitor Mr
Paul Timson. representing the council, said do mi nutes could he allowed for tidying up after functions, but not as long as the club appeared to have had. ac cording to the evidence.
Club m e ill b e r M r
Christopher Thomas, of H e r e f o r d
D r i v e ,
Clitheroe. said they were always concerned to finish a function on time, but liked to do some tidying up straight away after wards to comply with niles about keeping the premises dean.
Mr John Lumley. sol
icitor for the dub. said that if some members had spent time after midnight tidying up. it was not a breach of the rule that functions must finish by midnight.
The police had once
been called to the club after midnight, but did not find evidence that any laws had been broken ami had gone awav satisfied.
He added that Mr Ful
ler's case rested oil his complaint about car doors slamming after midnight, but this was no worse than what happened at any private house in a residential area.
