tracing former pupils and teachers were rewarded as memories were rekin dled. The oldest surviving

pupil, Miss Annie Porter (93), mingled with the crowds, sharing her own recollections of days at the school she grew to love.

She first attended at

the age of nine when her father came to Downham to w o rk fo r L o rd Clitheroe. Her education — read

One of the day’s high

Featured were cuttings and pictures from the film “Whistle Down the Wind” which was made near the village, with some of the pupils taking part. Lady Clitheroe who had hoped the school’s closure might be reprieved, fol lowing a protest by villa gers. Now the school is likely

to have a future which will retain its tradition of friendliness and unity — as a possible playgroup base and craft centre.

Blocked way for ambulance

A CLITHEROE man left his pick-up truck in such a way that an ambulance driver could not man oeuvre his vehicle past and had to park nearby and carry a patient from her home, C l ith e ro e magistrates were told. David Shaw (37), of

York Street, Clitheroe, was fined £10 for causing an' unnecessary obstruc tion. Shaw said he had left

his vehicle in Park Street with two wheels on the footpath to allow traffic to

pass. “ I measured the gap

from the side of the track to a point across the road and I am sure there was enough space for the am bulanceman to pass,” he said. At the time of the inci

dent Shaw was removing rubbish from a home for the mentally handicapped, which he runs with his wife.

Valley customers who rented Toshiba sets from the King Street shop owned by Blackburn- based firm Wade TV were told that the firm was no longer entitled to collect hire charges following a High Court order.

It was claimed that

Wade TV had fallen behind in its payments for the Toshiba sets.

Shortly after the letters

went out, Wade TV, with branches in Blackburn, Burnley and Clitheroe and outside East Lancashire, called in the Receiver.

Now all the sides have

got together in the dis pute and produced a statement which reads as follows:

“The Receiver of Wade

TV L td , Mr F ran k Taylor, and Toshiba (UK) Ltd have reached agree ment as to the Toshiba TV sets supplied to Wade TV Ltd by Toshiba, prior to the Receivership.

“The Receiver has ack

nowledged Toshiba’s own ership of all Toshiba’s TV sets in the possession of Wade TV customers, who have received a letter of offer from Toshiba.

“ All such customers

may now deal with Toshi ba direct, without fear of a claim against them by the Receiver or any other person, on behalf of Wade TV.

“All other customers

should continue to deal freely with Wade TV before.”

The managing director

of Wade TV, Mr Ken Cotton, said this week that the company was trading normally in every aspect.
