POP went this stall with a difference at Clitheroe Parish' Church annual garden party on Satur day, when St Mary’s Scouts decided to cater for the sweet tooth of their customers.

The stall selling pop corn cooked by the boys

— seen here with Cub Akela Mrs Anne Pietrzak and Clitheroe Mayor Coun. Howel Jones — proved popular and the scouts also ran an aerial ropeway.

The garden party, held

at Temple wood, Pendle Road, home of parishion ers Mr and Mrs R. G.

POPCORN BOOSTS PARTY PROFITS

PUPPETEER Mr Denis Wolohan was a big favourite with the' chil dren when the Ribbles- dale Nursery School, Clitheroe, held its first open day.

■ The children played

games, enjoyed a picnic lunch and put on a concert for their parents.

Many of the pupils’

brothers and sisters came along and headmistress Mrs June Dewhurst, who joined the school last Sep tember, said the affair was such a success that it was hoped to hold it every year.

SHELTERED HOUSING

APPROVAL in principle has been given for a

Ribble Valley Council sheltered housing scheme on the site of the old Carl ton Mill, Clitheroe.

It will comprise 12 one-

person flats, eight two- person bungalows and three family houses.

The Housing Commit-'

junction with Clitheroe Road.

Connection

PROBLEMS over tele phone lines being con stantly engaged at the Hyndbum District Educa tion Office have been les- sended by adjustments to the system. Members of the Ribble

Valley Liaison Committee for Education were told by Deputy Education Of ficer Mr Jack Lord that since the alterations most people had found they could ring in.

Not nursing officer

WE have been asked by Mrs Edna Hothersall to point out that in an article in last week’s edition she was described as being chief nursing officer of the Clitheroe St John Ambu lance. Mrs Hothersall is in fact divisional superinten dent, the nursing officer

being Mrs Anne Roberts. -
