c o u n c i l lo r A MEMBER of Billington Parish Council for the past 17 years — five as vice-chairman — Coun. Justin Charles Jungbluth has died, two days before his 68th birthday. The funeral took place

at St Leonard’s, Langho, where for many years he had been a PCC member and sidesman, and for the past 15 months a chur chwarden. Coun. Jungbluth, of Bil-

lington Gardens, was ca tering manager at Broc- khall Hospital, for 27 years. His experience in hotel

catering before the war led him to join the RAF Catering Corps. After he left the RAF

in 1946, he came to ’Broc- khall as. head; chef (later restyled caterings man ager) until he retired in 1973. Local politics was his

main' in te r e s t outside work. He was also a member of the Billington branch of the Royal Brit ish Legion and the vil lage’s Old People’s Wel fare Committee.

. After the funeral, at

tended by a large congre gation, burial was at Old Langho. .

Celebrating with a

pageant

HALLOW-E’EN will be celebrated with much re velry in Sabden this year. The village is usually

the mecca for hundreds of visitors on the night of October 31st and that is why the village’s Hallow e’en pageant is, being held a week tomorrow.

A torchlight procession

will wend its merry way through the village, there will be a communal bon fire on the field where the pageant is to be staged and the finale will be a dance in St Nicholas’s Hall.

Improvement

THE a p p ea ran c e of Clitheroe Castle- grounds

is being ;improved by. a person on the Work Ex

perience Scheme. ‘ , Following1 criticism , of

the. state; of the grounds by a r e s id e n t and Clitheroe Town Council, the Ribble Valley Coun-' cil’s Recreation and Lei sure Committee gave Borough Engineer Mr Dennis Black the go- ahead* to ask the Employ-, ment Office if youngsters could help.

THERE/ was va- remark

able response from would -be chorus girls to an appeal for, dancers made by C l ith e ro e Pa r ish' Church Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society. Since the so c ie ty ’s

search was publicised in last week’s Advertiser and Times, choreographer Mrs Gladys Sutcliffe' has received replies from Clitheroe, Sabden, Ois- burn, Chipping and Read. She is delighted that

she has been able to gather a team of 10

L women aged between 16 and 30 for the society’s production of Gigi, 'which is being produced by Bar bara Scattergood early

1 next year. Mrs Sutcliffe said some of the girls were trained

:and others were not' — but they were very keen to |earn. “I am delighted that so

many came forward,” she said. “It means the socie ty will now have its own dancing team for the first time in its history.” Rehearsals began on

Tuesday at Clitheroe Parish Hall and will con tinue. every week until the show. .

• Waddington:. hadt e x

pected a. hard; tussle’with Charnock Richard, lead-- ers of the Preston Pre mier • League, • and they were not disappointed.

Both teams produced

some entertaining football and Waddington took the ' lead through Sims who lobbed the ball over the stranded ’keeper. Unhap pily player-manager -Kirk was booked shortly after wards. ■

Waddington kept up the

pressure until, after about half an hour, the visitors equalised with : a close- range header'. . Minutes later Clayton cleared off the line to deny Charnock a seemingly certain goal. -

thwarted by some excel lent saves and had to be content to go in on level ■ terms. .

. . The .visitors ’ resumed

with some controlled foot ball - and moved into the lead, which they held

until the last 20 minutes, a period packed with thrills generated by end- to-end play. ■

Green in place of Geldard and within five minutes

\they had scored through Clayton and Bishop.

The visitors equalised

with 10 minutes to go and then took the lead again. In the dying minutes Green cut in to ' slot the ball home at the near post to force the game into extratime.

> Waddington looked the

fitter side and they domi nated the first period without 'adding ' to ; their score. Charnock Richard netted the winner with a fine volley with 10 mi nutes left.
