THE FA Cup is something that most local pjeople see only once a year — and usually on television at that — being presented after the Wembley Final. But 20 players from the Pendle Roneers club all had their hands on the trophy on a Christmas visit to the Manchester United set up. And, as another treat, the

A SMALL group of children f r om P a r k A v e n u e , Clitheroe, put so much effort into a carol singingtour of their neighbourhood that they were asked to give a rep eat performance the follo^g_night. : .. _., - .
The . group, whose ages
rahg^ from three to nine years, set out in the rain with two mothers—Mrs Stephanie Dugdale and Mrs Nina Driver — tO’ visit neighbours and sing their

team were allowed to run out of the Old Trafford tunnel and on the the pitch. They spent the morning
a t th e c lu b ’ s training complex at “ The Cliff” where they saw the players preparing for the Boxing Day dash ■with Everton. Afterwards, famous inter
national stars as Sammy Mcllroy, Brian Greenhoff
and Gordon Hill chatted with the lads. 'While at the training roimd, the party were also shown the cnang- i n g

physiotherapy complex and even the players’ baths. -' A f te r lunch, the boys visited the dub’s stadium. In addition to looking round the trophy room, the lads also calted at the souvenir shop.
The Pendle Pioneers’
s e c r e t a r y , Mr Jac k Haydock, accompanied the
party. “ It was a fantastic day and
I must thank Manchester United for their very warm hospitality,” he said. “All the players found time to chat ■with the lads and they all returned home with plenty of autographs.” The trip was the result of
a long standing arrangement with United’s former assis tant manager Mr Frank Blunstone. Although there is now a
ban on touring parties at Old T ^ fo rd , present' manager Dave Sexton honoured the arrangement. Meanwhile the club is
hoping to visit Leeds United and Everton football dubs in the New Year.
