Tudge smashes record 165 as Read tumble
Read 229 for 7 dec. Northern 2.‘t2 for 1
READ’S home meeting with Blackburn Northern produced an outstanding game of cricket with a new individual batting record of 165 not out being set up by Peter Tudge, Northern’s South African professional. All told, a total of 450 rans were scored in five hours.

straight into trouble with the reply. The usually formidable opener Martyn Greenhalgh left at 11, the f irs t of Kennedy’s five victims. Bill Slinger took the ne.xt wicket at 18 and Kennedy sent three more men back for the addition of 15 rtins. With half the side out at

He served them e.xcellently following a knock of 77 with a haul of five for 35. Kennedy and Ken Proctor put on G6 for the first wicket, Billy Lamb then helping Kennedy to take the score to 91 before the professional was caught and bowied by Greenhalgh. How’ever, Wanderers’

This time they were poised for the kill with Bamoldswiek on 88 for 7 but failed to grab the ne.xt wicket which would have qualified them for the e.xtra overs. With Keith Oliver unavail-
THE return game between Barnoldswick and Ribbles-

Highest indixddual score by a Ribblesdale League player is still 169 by Joe Massey (Blackpool) in an inter-league game with the North Lancashire League in 1931. Losing the toss, Read

Boys beat the staff
A RALLY by the tailend batsmen failed to save the day when the Headmaster’s staf f team of Clitheroe Royal Grammar School lost in the last over of their match -against the boys’ 1st

tumble, but largely thanks to 55 from Mr E. Carter they reached 13G in the last over, before being all out. For the boys, bowling figures were: S. Mansfield 3 for 21, T. Woods 2 for 24 and T, Bracewell 2 for 29. The previous day a Grammar
School “combined team” enter tained a girls’ team from Penwor- tham School, at Highmoor, and the bwys also lost in the last over by a narrow margin in a low’ scoring game.

WHALLEY’S hopes of retaining their Ribblesdale League crown faded almost into oblivion on Satur day as a result of a nine-wicket thi-ashing at Great Hai*wood. Without several first team
regulars because of holi days, the champions had no answer to Hanvood’s accu rate bowling and powerful batting.
- Batting first, Whalley made a good-start with pro Ken Snellgrove and captain John Slinger putting on 55. Snellgrove gave an enter taining display of b:isk scor ing before being bowled by Granville Pilling for 42.
there was little for the Whalley supporters to cheer as David Taylor, Derek Rushton and David Blezard managed only 19 between them.
But after his departure
