ENTERING only her second flower competition in the Kibble Valley, Mr N. Holmes, of Femlea, Edisford Road, Waddmgton, earned off the best in show award at Satur­ day's Chtheroe Flower Club event. She won with her entry


“ Silver Jubilee banquet” which came first m the “Royal


Occasion,” class. She also won first place m the class depict­ ing “Song titles of 25 years ago.” • The show, arranged as part of the Ribble Valley Sports Festival, attracted a large attendance. The ju d^ , Mrs J. Gilhb- r a n d , o f A c c r i n g t o n ,

Slaidbum Service


THE Mayor and Mayoress of the Ribble Valley, Coun. and Mrs Edwa rd Newhouse a t t e n d e d St An d r ew’ s Church, Slaidbum, on Sunday for their avic service. Members of the distnct


council and representatives from most of the area’s organ­ isations were present. Slaid- burn Silver B.and led the procession from the village centre to the church and played for the hymns. The service was conducted


by the Rector of Slaidbum, the Rev. George Gaze, and the lessons were read by Mr James Kenyon and Mr Ernest Harrison. Afterwards, the band led the large congrega­ tion to the village hall, where refreshments were served under the supervision of Mrs - Shaw, clerk to the parish council.

THE speaal Queen’s Silver Jubilee service at Chtheroe Parish Church on Sunday was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Chtheroe, Coun. and JIrs Bob Ainsworth. The church was decorated


in red, white, blue and silver fo r the family commumon. It was conduct^ by the Rev. J. C. Hudson, assisted by the Rev. Stanley Birtwell and ; churchwarden Mr Gerald' Hood. Coun. Ainsworth presented


souvenir photographs of the Queen and Prince Philip to the Sunday school children.
