SINCE Clitheroe and d i s t r i c t Scouts were presented ivith a mould to make slalom racing canoes by the Chamber of Trade three months ago, they have been in non-stop production. With an o th er mould
owned by Ribblesdale Scouts, ADC Alban Snape and Venture Scout Duncan Fielding have spent 16 days and 48 evenings to turn out 21 canoes at an average cost of £25. They had the support and
help of leaders. Ventures and Scouts. With the 20 canoes they already had, there is now a total of 41 canoes — sufficient for all the local troops.
They are now ready to
compete in the Windermere canoe race on September 16th and 17th, which prom ises to be an entertaining day out. The moulds are being stored until replace ment canoes are needed.
