Played in windy conditions
and on an ice-bound pitch, the game began at a fast pace with both sides coming close. With the wind behind them, Low Moor were more in con tro l and Woodworth and Campbell both saw good efforts go narrowly wide. At the other end of the field Chatburn almost took the lead
through Dobson, who ran on to a good through ball only to shoot wide. After the interval, Low
should have an element of luck good move smarted by Gunner, about it. They built up a good back in the side after injury.
Moor retained command, but good work by Johnson in goal and the awkward bounce of the ball kept the scoresheet blank. When Low Moor took the lead it was ironic that the goal
attack and a shot at goal reb o u n d ed to Musgrove whose low drive went under the diving goalkeeper. The home team almost
increased its lead soon after when Bradley forced Johnson . into a fine save, pushing his shot on to the post. Late in the game King had
the ball in the net for Chat burn but the effort was disal lowed for offside. Referee John Swayne did
an excellent job in controlling th e game and keeping it flowing. Low Moor Club: Thomson, John

CONTI GRABS POINT
Henthorn Utd 1, Royal Oak 1.
PLAYING with only 10 men, Royal Oak did well to earn a point in this hard-fought and entertaining clash.. In fact, they took the lead
early in the game through L. Aspinwall and it was not until the 85th minute that Henth orn equalised. Once Royal Oak were in
front they defended in depth and allowed their opponents little room in which to play. Henthorn’s breakthrough
came in the closing minutes when subs titute Brunker harassed the goalkeeper into a mistake and Steve Conti was left with a simple chance. Henthorn Utd: Hall, Isherwood,
G re a to re x , Conti (D.), Boyd, Bishop, ‘ Hargreaves, Conti (S.), Dearden, Wild, Sutcliffe. Sub.: Brunker. Royal Oak: Bromley (A.), Rigg,

CLITHEROE will be facing an unknown quantity when they entertain Wigan Athletic Reserves on Saturday at Shawbridge. Newcomers to the Lancashire Combination,
from the foot of the table. Clitheroe are still without
the services of suspended s tr ik e r Geoff Payton and either Keith Murray or Keith Hollinrake will be stepping in
He sent Pilling away on the left wing and his shot was picked up at the far post by Kimberley who turned it past Hayhurst. The game continued to be a
midfield battle with neither side making much progress and scoring chances were few and far between. The second half saw Calder
busiest man on the field and made several good saves -r- one at point-blank range from Wilson. H u r s t Green equalised
through substitute Gleen who met a good cross from Crotty after the winger had beaten two men in a 75-yard run. Ward appeared to have made a good save, but the linesman ruled that the ball had crossed the line. In a final flurry of activity
both teams had chances and Eccles was just wide with a good shot. At the other end, Calder
stones scored what was to p ro v e the winning goal through Ainsworth, after Shaw had come close. Calderstones continued to
go forward, but were either, off target or thwarted by Hayhurst in goal. Hurs t Green: Hayhurst,
Rogerson, Holden, Bailey, Jacques, Carter, .Eccles (R), Moon, Young, Eccles (J), Crotty. Sub: Gleen. Calderstones: Ward, Pow

Cub-Scouts . Because of the wintry con
ditions at the weekend, only two games were played in the Clitheroe and District Cub Scout Football League. Whal-. ley had a 4-0 victory away to Trinity Panthers and Pendle beat Waddington 7-0 at home. Saturdays team for the rep

But, in the end, not even he
could stop Ainsworth’s superb ■header — his first goal of the season — to keep Calder stones at the top.
The game — transferred to
Calderstones because the Hurst Green first team had a home fixture — was played on an icy pitch in wind and snow. The fact that it took place at all is a tribute to the Calder stones groundstaff. With the wind at their
backs the young Hurst Green forwards soon had the Calder stones defence in all kinds of
, trouble. But although they played
rarely threatened and keeper Ward handled the icy ball well. Their forwards, while not having as much possession as their opponents, always looked more dangerous in front of goal. Calderstones took the lead on the half hour following a
some attractive football in midfield and on the flanks, where Crotty and Richard Eccles were in fine form, there was no one on hand to co n n e c t with th e i r fine crosses. The Caldertones goal was

POST OFFICE TAKE TITLE
CLITHEROE Post Office narrowly defeated Standen E in a second play-off to win the third division of the Ribbles- dale Table Tennis Association. The match, played at the
two-nil lead, but Standen hit back to square the game. Twice more the Post Office went ahead and were pulled back to level, but they won the last two matches to take the title. Clitheroe PO 6, Standen E
P o s t Office on Standen’s table, was a close battle with first one side and then the other taking the lead. The Post Office opened up a
game more than Standen D and two more than Standen C. This week is the last for
scheduled league matches and it is important that all out standing games are completed as soon as possible, so that fair handicaps can be allocated to players taking part in the handicap leagues, which will start when the fixtures are completed.
The organisers want to base
handicaps on as near an equal number of games as possible.

Ribbtc Valley Under 14s 2, Wigan Under 14s 3
AN 80th minute penalty dep rived the Ribble Valley of a d raw in th is schoolboy friendly, played at St Augus tine’s School, Billington. They equalised twice in a
hard-fought game, but were unable to find an answer to the late goal. Wigan took the lead after
only three minutes, but the home side drew level when a long range left wing shot from D e rb y sh ire deceived the ’keeper. The visitors adapted better
to the icy conditions and were 2-1 in front at half time. Croft, who came on as substi tute for the injured Derby shire, equalised soon after the restart. The game was organised as
a training session for the Rennel Cup. The Ribble Val ley will play them first round tie at the end of the month. Ribble Valley Under 14s: Holden,
Burgess and Norris (St Augus t in e ’s); Stevenson, Derbyshire, Waddington, Currie and Monks (Cawthorpo); Guinness and Wardle (CRGS); Pyrnm (Ribblosdale). Subs: Croft and Dinsdalo (Ribblesdale);
Hoping for cup success
WADDINGTON, drawn away to Skipton Town in the semi-final of the Craven Cup, are hoping that it will be a case of third time lucky.
Last season and the season
before, the village side were knocked out at this stage of the competition. Their opposi tion once again promises to be
' tough,, however. Skipton Town are having their best’ season yet and are challenging for the honours in the Craven Premier League. At present they are in third position. The' semi-final takes place on T h u rsday , April 15th, at Settle.
The Craven Cup final could
in fact prove to be a local derby as the other semi-final involves Gisburn. They play cup-holders Skipton Bulldogs on Tuesday, April 13th,at Bar- noldswick. Gisburn are reck oned to have a good chance of making the final as Bulldogs '
