Trinity victors in extra time

WITH the two teams holding adjacent positions in the league,

a good game was guaranteed from the start in this Aitken Shield first round game. And it was Trinity who provided the thrills. They were 3-2 down with minutes to go to full time, but pulled back the vital equa liser to gain extra time. Then, the visitors put three more goals past a shattered Royal Oak side, in two minutes, to gain a convincing win.

took time to settle down, but Royal Oak had the slight ad vantage. However, Trinity took the lead after 25 minutes, when Turbull headed past goal keeper Behan. The home side bounced back, and within five

shortly after the restart scored for Royal Oak. Then a switch in the Trinity forward line paid off with Mortimer driving home his team's second, and the fight was on. Edmondson was brought down in the area, and Penman ‘netted’ from the spot, but had to retake, and Behan pulled off a reflex save. The equaliser, that meant 20 minutes' extra time, eventually came from Turnbull. Trinity brought on substitute

a cross from Mortimer gave Brian Edmondson the chance to head home. Seconds after the kick off, the ball was back in the net, this time Morrison scoring. The Oak defence was completely shattered, and a minute later, Trinity were 6-3 up, when Turnbull completed his hat trick of headed goals. The second period of extra

time was a mere formality, with Trinity completely dominant until the final whistle. Royal Oak: Behan, Wareing.
