CLITHEROE P O P FESTIVAL in the CASTLE GROUNDS
PARENTS from many parts of the county travel
led to Whiteacrc School. Barrow-, on Saturday, when Friends of Whiteacre held a garden fete in the school grounds.
The event was the first to I ,
b e organised by th e Friends, to help the pupils raise £1,000 for the pur chase of a Ford transit van for use as a school bus.
Whiteacrc is a county
boarding school, and draws its pupils from a wide area. For this reason, the Friends arc organised in

locality groups, including one for North-East Lanca shire.
Pupils of the school had
wo r k e d industriously, making soft toys and other saleable goods. Attractions included a tombola, pony rides, putting, archery and a palmist. The fete was opened by
Mr. Neville Garside, chief reporter of the Clithcroe Advertiser and Times, who was accompanied on the
platform by. Miss M. J. Parsons, headmistress, and Mr. D. V. McEnemy. chairman of the Friends of Whileacre. Our picture shows Mr.
Garside being presented with a Bavarian beer mug. Looking on are Miss M. J. Parsons, headmistress, and Mr. D. V. McEnemy, chairman of the friends of Whiteacre. Proceeds of the fete total £150 to date.
