Naturalists take a walk by the Calder

the sycamores and the beeches attracted our attention as wo mado our way along the lane which got its name not from the brook which flows nearby,
but from a family . named Brookes who were influential
people in the Whalley area. Our way took us through the
fields by Springwood and the golf course to Clerk Hill. As we walked Dy the brook
river w o saw a wild chewy, white with blossom. We also saw evidence of high
water where the trees had caught grasses , and leaves in overhanging branches approxi
mately 15 feet from the bed of the river. Among the branches were
