ALTHOUGH it is only a month ago since Clitheroc gained their last win in the Lancashire Combination, since that date they have played no fewer than 10 league games from which they have obtained only one point, when they drew 1— 1 at
Guinness Export. Their 1—4 defeat at Burscough on Saturday mercifully
ended the season, which has been one of the worst in recent years.
______ Admittedly Clithcroe have
had more than their fare share of injuries, and have had difficulty in picking 11 players, but more often than not a coal-scoring forward could have saved a few
matches. Many supporters may not
realise that Clltheroe have been fortunate, for had it not been lor the poor form r.f ‘ earns such as Leyland Motors, Dar- wen and Great Harwood, they would surely have gone down to the Second Division. Their final total of 30,

Padiham. In the last 12 games. Clith-

reduce the arrears, but when left, clear by Johnson's pass, he
shot wide. Burscough added two more
joals by Fitzgerald (3(1 min utes! and Hammill (42 minutes) to give them a 4—0 half-time lead, but the score could have been something like 4—3 if the Clitheroe forwards had taken their chances. Burscough became too casual
in the second half, and Harvey Clitheroe's new signing was allowed to go through. His powerful shot, however, was straight at Parker. Sumner cleared for Clitheroe when lie tackled Hammill after
