WANDERERS MAINTAIN I THEIR CHALLENGE f FOR LEADERSHIP

With Ribblesdale Wanderers and Earby .both winning on Saturday, the

latter’s lead at the top of the league tabic remains ..the same. Baxenden became Earby’s latest victim . when they were beaten on their home

ground at Back Lane. After three batsmen were out, Earby declared at 181,

most of the work having been done by G. Greening (72) and Dennett (51).

J. Duckworth’s 51 was a

liig help towards Baxenden’s hopes, but the team were all out for 104. This was mostly due to Dennett who sent six of their batsmen back to the .pavilion for 42 runs. Top batsman of the day was

Brian Cole, Clitlieroe’s profes sional. who returned after two weeks' absence caused by badly ipulled rib muscles. In spite of his handicap, he scored a bril liant 98 not out against Bar- noldswick.

were 109 all out and were quite easily defeated by Blackburn Northern, whose R. Walton took six wickets for 56. Their win brought them up one place In the table.
