NORTHERN DEFEATED BUT NO CHANGE IN THE LEADERSHIP
ALTHOUGH local holidays made it a blank Saturday in senior cricket for Clithcroe and Whallcy people, four matches were played in the Ribblcsdale League at the
weekend, but there were no changes at the top of the league. Blackburn Northern, league leaders and last season’s champions, were beaten by
Baxenden at Plcckgale by four wickets. Northern, led by Mike Beddow, the county all-rounder
who was deputising as professional for the injured Gordon Taylor, made a slow start and only scored 15 runs in the first hour. Beddow scored 64 out of Northern’s total of 123.
