spread so fast that the num­ ber o f cars this year has soared to near the 100 mark. Bu t , lu ckily, marshalls


and organisers will be able to use the w hole o f H o gh ­ ton Tower's mile - lon g driveway and the court­


yard. Marshal l ing starts at 10-30


a.m. and R A C officials work­ ing from a mobi le control office in the grounds— there wi l l be a s imi lar set-up at Cl itheroe— will give each car a stringent test. They will be looking at


brakes, lights, steering and tyres— and if there are any defects, points will be knocked off the compet itor's “clean sheet” total. Marks wi l l also be deducted if the vehicle is not taxed.
