CYCLISTS’ WEEK-END AT MORECAMBE

r|'HREE separate parties went to Morecambe last week-end, the first being the camping section who left on the Saturday afternoon and pitched their tents at White Lund. The second party left at 6-30 on Sunday morning to face a very wet ride through the Trough of Bow- land, and the third party left at the usual time of 9-0.

bined operation was to watch the numerous racing events organis ed as part of the Morecambe Cyclists' Week-End, and certain ly there was no lack of enter tainment. Early on the Sunday morning the camping section were watching the competitors

Prizes are contested for on each lap of the race, and these are announced over the public ad dress system, the variety of them being a constant source of amusement, ranging as they did on Sunday, from bottles of wine to “ Brillo ” pads, and from tubu lar tyres to parcels of groceries.

we wanted to get into the cafe before the rush of other specta tors, and our judgment was per fect because we had barely been served in an otherwise empty room than the room was full of people who had stayed to watch some of the slower runners go through.

We daren’t watch too long as

week-end were the Ramsbottoms. Alan a professional cyclist on the Continent had crashed on the Sunday near the finish of the Paris-Brussels race, whilst his younger brother John was brought off in the finishing sprint at an event held on the Goosnargh circuit near Long ridge. There Is no news that Alan was injured, but John had to be taken to hospital at Pres ton where he has been detained with cuts and a chipped bone in his elbow.
