Andrew’s Church annual sale of work was held in the Village Hall on Saturday afternoon, when
heavily laden stalls of produce, sweets and toys, household goods and confectionary were on dis play. These were provided by Slaidburn. Newton and Dunsop Bridge people. There were also children’s games and competi tions. buffet teas and a white elephant stall. The Rector, the Rev. George

Road. Clithcroc. died a t her home on Monday, aged 80.
The wife of the late Mr. John
R. Kershaw, Mrs. Kershaw came to Clitheroc in 1936, when her husband was appointed the first manager of the Clithcroc branch of th e Blackburn Trustee Savings Bank. Mr. Kershaw died about 20 years ago.
Mrs. Kershaw was for many

sided a t the annual meeting ot Downham Women’s Institute, held in the Village Hall. Mrs. Eastwood gave a talk on Denman College, and Mrs. Walton was chosen for the Denman bursary. Lady'Clitheroe was re-elected president, and Mrs. Altham^ and
Mrs. H. Oliver were appointed vice-presidents. Mrs. Eastwood judged th e competition, a spray
of Autumn leaves, which was won ,by Mrs. Singleton.
DANCE. — The anniversary
dance was held in Downham Vil lage Hall. Music was provided by the Tony Farmer Trio and pro ceeds were for Village Hall funds.
Kenneth Oldham, of Whitchaugh Camp School, described an ex pedition to "T h e Mountains of the Moon ” in Africa. He was camennan on this ex
pedition, and his talk was well illustrated by colour films. Mrs. Brierley thanked the
speaker. Lady Worslcy-Tnylor presided.

J),URING his 13 years service at the Clilheroc Transport Department of the Milk Marketing Board, Mr. T. H. Simp son, has driven a distance equivalent to 20 times round the

Clitheroe is a married man with two sons. At the Starkic Arms Hotel,
Clithcroe last night he was pre sented with an award from the
Royal Society for the Preven tion of Accidents. In addition he received a cash
prize from the Milk Marketing Board.
Mr. Simpson, who was the
principal award winner—there were twelve in all—has driven 503.000 miles and collected almost six million gallons of milk.

of the seven-days suspension of Welsh international centre half, Mike England. Sims who was picked up by
the Rovers in 1958-9 when play ing in the Lancashire Combina tion for Clitheroe, carried on his training as an electrician u ntil he passed his exams and th en joined the Ewood staff full-time. He has been a regular in the Central League side for th e past few seasons.
