ROT DANGER AT VILLAGE CHAPEL
T 'H E worshippers til tinollier Methodist Clutpel in the Chtheroe
area have just received a big shock. The (trended cnemv of all older buildings, wet rot. has
been discovered at Slaidburn Methodist Church and Sunday
School. Al least several hundred pounds will be required to pay
for repairs, and ibis is a crippling blow lo a congregation that can boasl no more than 15 mcmbeis. The rot was
discovered |
about a month ago in a wall between the church and the schoolroom. Work is proceeding in
patching the damage hut a thorough, repair will prove
extremely cosily. Mrs. J. Sanderson, wife of the
chapel steward told the Adi c;- liscr and Times this week that church officials would have to find a way of raising the neccs- sarv money. -We are determined dial our
chapel will not go out," she said. '‘Goodness only knows where
we will find the money but all of us are determined to do all we can to keep the flag flying."_ The church has at present 15
members a n d th e regular attenders number about 12 Services are at present being
held in the school. The chapel, which was built
just under 150 years ago is in the Clitheroe Methodist Circuit and comes under the direct supervision of the new Superin tendent Minister. the Rev. Ronald jobling.

tradition. With the passing of the years,
however, it has suffered because families have died off or left the district so that die number of its supporters has diminished con
siderably. In the old days preachers used
to ride on horseback—sometimes as far as 50 miles tor the return
