anniversary services were held with com plete success at Ebcnczer Baptist Church, Billington, oil Sunday. There were large congregations and tho services wore much enjoyed. A popular preacher in the district, the Uev. J). Jerman, B.D., conducted the services and at the morning service gave an address to tho young people, Mr. Jcrmnn has preached at the Sunday School anniversary on many occasions during the hist thirty’ years, making many friends who are always anxious to hear him. Mrs. Hopwood, a soprano vocalist, of Padiham, who was formerly a member of the choir, gave great pleasure with her beautiful rendering of solos. She was in remarkably line voice and in the afternoon she sang with splendid effect, “ My Prayer ” (Squire) and “ Tho Lord is my Light” (Allitscu). At the evening service, Mrs. Hopwood gave further pleasure with her singing of “ Via Sacra” (Russell) and “ When 1 survey the wondrous Cross ” (Thompson). Special anniversary hymns wore sung by the chil dren at the morning service. Mr. H. Houghton was the organist and Mrs. Hop- wood was accompanied at the piano by Miss M. Birtwcll, of Sabden. The collec tions were in aid of Sunday School Funds and amounted to £IS 4s.. which was an increase on the sum raised last year.

NURSING ASSOCIATION.—The annual meeting of the A’halloy District Nursing
Association was held last night week al the Church of England School, Airs. G. H Taylor presiding over a big attendance. From the report of the president, it was revealed that the Association has had most satisfactory year. The confidence the members have in the officials was in dicated by the fact that there were few changes made when the election of officers took place. Mrs. G. if. Od. had hern raised hv 359 sub scrihers. and the AA'hallev Flayers contri lulled £70. The annual whist drivo and dance produced £47 4s. 2d., and. with sub scriptions from churches and chapels and other sources, the total receipts amounted t:> £340. In the course of her annual re port. the President (Mrs. CL H. Taylor) said that during tho past year the nurse had paid J.009 visits, against 2.019 during ti.e previous year. six midwifery and one tubercular. There were still ten patients on tho books. An
excelled? report had heen received from the Queen’s Institute of District Nursing. All the patients visited were given competent ami skilful nursing and treated with con sideration. Nurse Lytle was well received in all tho homos. The equipment was found to he in very good order and tho hooks up to date. There was no doubt that the car was a great boon to the nurse, especially as the district had heen extended in the Aecrington-road district to include C’oek Bridge,'and also Old Langho. It was with regret that tho committee lind to record the loss through death of Airs. Clegg, who had been a member for many years, and tho resignations of Mrs. Lnngshaw ami Aliss Howarlh. who had loft the district. The report concluded with an expression of thanks to all who had rendered service and made particular mention or tho secre tary, Aliss Dean, tho treasurer, Mr. A. Tavlor. and the auditors, Air. There will be n thanksgiving service in the Parish Church at 10-0 n.m., and nil denominations are invited to take part. At tho village sports on tho recreation ground, at 2-0 p.m., tho interesting events for young and old have been arranged, and suitable prizes will ho given. Ten for hoys and girls at tho Assembly Booms, and-tho presentation of Jubilee mugs by AHs. H. L. Bushton will follow. Tea for residents over 05 is also to he provided at Air. Speakman’s cafe. Intending participants arc asked to give their names to Airs. S. Bugdnlo or Mrs. C. Tomlinson. A local resident has given a pig to bo competed for by ladies over 20. Known ns tho slippery pig. it will lie released on tho recreation field and will become the property of its fniv captor. A large bonfire nt 10-0 p.m. will conclude tho festivities. There has been a splendid response to the appeal for funds, over £40 having heen contributed. A prize will be given for the best decorated house.
