Here tfiey wore allowed to ramble about in the day-time, and one of tlie party com- mittod suicide by drowning. Taken on to Berlin, they were guarded by 40 or 50 .soldiers with fixed bayonets until plaeoil in prison for another 14 days. The journey to Buhleben was completed by . tra in , and on th e ir a r r ival the prisoners within th e gates g-ave them a cheer.. , They were p u t into a hayloft, ■witli only three small wiadows, ba.ro floor, and l i t t le l ig h t. They could not s tand erect.. . They had to fetch theii* own .straw to lie on, and had nothing b u t th e ir own clothing to cover thein a t n ig h t . The scoutmasters who yvero in charge a re to he con g ratu ­ lated on th e fact th a t th e re has not in any instance been a case of had conduct or th e s lig h test accident. The .scout.s have no t had th e oiiiiortuiiities fo r as much imiwriaiit work as la.st year. 'They have, however, done much useful work amongst which may be mentioned: handing over .£36 to Red Cro.ss aud other war funds, and d is tr ib u tin g .some­ th in g lik e 15,000 handhills, letters and circulars in connection with the war.
