Rural District Council was held at the ' Town Hall on Monday afternoon. The Rev. Fr. Pinnington presided. The other members present were Messrs. W. Hanson, G. Turner. J. Porter and T. Robinson.


NEW BRIDGE .VP PENDLETON. A letter w;vs re;ul from the County Bridge


Master with respect to the proposed new bridge at I'endleton. He stilted that a meeting was lield on June 4th of the Main Roads and Bridges Committee and a reso­ lution was passed recommending the County Council to grant .;475 from the Blackburn Hundred Bridges Bate towards the proposed new bridge, on condition that the work was carried out to the drawing submitted, and to their satisfaction. Also that the Clith- eroe District Council undertake all respon­ sibility for the upkeep and repairs of the bridge in the future. It was pointed out that the proposed grant was based upon one third of the estimated cost. In reply to a question by Mr. Turner, the Surveyor said the bridge would cost

The fortnightly meeting of the Clitheroa


Board of Guardians was held in the Board Room at the Workhouse on Monday morn­ ing. Mr. W. Hanson presided. There were also present Revs. Canon Wilson, J. C. Garnett and Fr. Pinnington, Mrs. IV. L. Grime, Messrs. H. H. Baldwin, R. I. Rob­ inson, W. Braithwaite, W. Wilkinson, J. Brown, E. T. IVelch, F. Parmeter, G. J. Holme, S. Green and IV. Garnett (junr.).


HOUSE COMMITTEE. At a meeting of the House committee


held on July 4th, Mr. IV. Hanson presiding, it was recommended on the proposition of Mr. IVilkinson, seconded by Mr. Baldwin, that no alteration be made in the existing contracts under the Vaccination Order of 1907. Nurse Thomjason and J. T. Riding, inbecile attendant, applied for sixteen days’ leave of absence. This was granted subject to the date fixed for the commence­ ment of their holidays being approved by the new Master. It was decided to have the workhouse cart overhauled by J. T. Slinger and Sons, Clitheroc. It was re­ ported that the furniture required for the Master’s residence had been purchased for ;£4 ros. ^ The minutes were adopted on the propo­


sition of Canon Wilson, seconded by Rev. J. C. Garnett.
