Wlialley v. Sabden match a tie, one point each added.

The surprise of Saturday’s matches was

the defeat of ithe Harwood Liberals at the hands of the Low Moor team. The visitors arrived late through a mishap to the vehicle ill which they were being conveyed. One of the traces broke while descending Sandy Brow, Whalley, and tlie driver, in attempt

ing to apply the break fell from his seat, but fortunately drojiped clear of the wheels. The horses were then ' forced ahead at a fast pace, but fortunately they were arrested just after taking the corner near the Swan Hotel, without any very serious damage h.aving been done.

.■ Vnd thien to be beaten by a margin of 51 after all 1 The Harwood men showed their best at

the game, but the homestens fought pluckily and thoiigli only R. Christy and A. Bailey managed to reach home, Tattersall, Wilson and Coates all reached the 90 street. The most decisive games were by Bo.ardman a- gainst Eccles 100— 42, and A. Ainsworth .against Wilson 100— 45.

The victory throws the contest more open

and no doubt there is great interest for the games set down for the second half of the season.

Another surprise was the match Sabden

V. Whalley, in which a tie is recorded. The Abbeyites went strong, seven of the men reaching pomts, b;;t the handicap jiroved a barrier. It is something in the nature of liard lines to wipe off a deficit of 170 and then tie.

The previous week Sabden won, it will

be remembered by two points. The handi- ca])ping has levelled things up wonderfully.

The Clitheroe Conservatives had not

much difficulty with the Weavers' side. Onlv one man failed, and that by four

C O L L A R S points, and having run off a handicap of 250 the home team set about making a surplus of 75. Tom Robinson was in great form and won quite easily. The game was called 24— 5 against him, but the Conservative man put on 95 while his opponent was making five.

W. Blackburn, W. E. Sagar, H. S. GOODS\

Wliittaker and R. Harrison all played well. W. Whipp had the distinction of being the only member of the Weavers? team to get home. J. Bolton, however, came very near it with 99.

The Clitheroe Liberals, too, proved

themselves worthy cueists against the Con servatives from Harwood. Nothing out of the ordinary transpired in ithe games, a break of 43 by J. Haworth being the most notable feature.
