MURl'aC--VNE HI-Ti:iNG CHURCH MEADOW.
There was a fairly good aileiidance on iIIli>f'' > I ‘
tile Church Meadow ground, yesterday, when a friendly match was played between a team selected by Ribblesdalo Wanderers and East Chesiiire Wanderers. The lat ter had tile assistance of Cook (Burnley), Crabtree (Colne), Thoniton (Milnrow) and Barker (Stalybridge), while tlie Wanderers team included CTitlieroe, Whalley, Barrow and Blackburn players. The visitors, who batted, first, iimde a good start, 19 being signalled for the lirst wicket. Crabtree, who gave a good display, was second out at G0_. his .share being no less than 10. TTiorneycroft gave little trouble, but Cook and ’Ih'.irnton defied all tlie efforts of me home Ixiwlers for a considerable length of time. The .score was 67 when they became a.5socialed, but it was taken to 170 before a separation was effected. Boundaries were very frequent, some hard hitting being in dulged in, and runs came at a rapid rate. Cook nil tlirce boundaries from Bourn in one over, one of the hits being out of the field. The Burnley man gave a diflicnli chance when he had made
bur it was
not accepted. Me wa.s the first to reacn die half-ceiunry, hut with only two runs addeil he was out to a .splendid catch on ihc bound, iry by Bruce off .SaiU'iisou's bowl ing. 'I hornioii proved even more diflicuit to get rid of. He was assisted by Morris (wlin eveiinially carried out his bat for 17) to take the total to i;13. when Bourn, wiio had been brought: on .again .after a rest, penetrated hi.s defence. His share of the score was 70, obtained liy capital cricket. 'I'Jie
la.sr five wickets only added eleven mil'. ;d| /jcing out for '22i.
Brooks and Bourn claimed the most of
the wickets, the former having the

.Sampson's
one was obl.iined for 39. Ribblesdale started their voplv with L.

overiiytk them, the U'iialley player being bowled by Co<jk before he had .scored. 1 obiiu came in, only to sec Bruce disposed of in the .second over of the match bv Barker.
J.ynes and 'Jobiift played the
bowling will! coiilideiice, but with die total at 1 I (,'ook
disinis.sed Lynes and Slierliker in ilie
s.inie over. Dawson (3). was tile ne.M to go, half the wickets being down tor 'JO. Cook claimed another vic tim three runs later. Tobiiri t.i). failing lo time one. Sampson and Ramsbottoin in- .s])ire-d more eonfidciiee and were doing nicely when Barker brought about uie downfall of the Wliallcy juu.
'TJar-

Cook .secured his wicket, the li.nsman being' lieceivcd bv the .s(ieed ol the ball, the liowler .sending one down r.iiher slower than nsnai. When Eangshnw (.S). left at 71. tlie majority of the. .spectator.s were inclined to believe that all Would be over in ,a .short time. Brooks and Bourn, however, created a iileasant surprise, lor they put on 96 rvms for the last wicket. Bourn (G) kept hi.s end np wliile Brooks did die .scoring, the last- named Jiaving 93 to ids credit when he was
cainglir behind ilic wicket. The inning.s realised 97. Cook .secured seven wickets for 17—at one time he had four for eight and Barker had the renminder for 13.

THE PALACE. Pictures occupy a very subordinate part
in the Palace programme this week. Tbsre are six variety turns, some of them heir? very novel. Dore and his little hippolroitt has quite captured the fancy of the aiidisr*' ces. We have seen legions of cowboys ot the pictures, but Texas Bill is the’ ret artiste. He is picturesquely attired, anl uses his gun with a freedom which enf always associates with the inhabitants of the " wild and woolly ’West,” his feats with the lassoo and 16 feet whip are very clever* A pretty and refined drawing-room act is gire® by Gavinia and Morelli. whilst Lance and Nellie, described as "England’s premier dancing babes ” have received rounds of ap’ plause. Jack Cranston, vocalist and cony edian, and Myra Milano, in an eccentne musical act, complete the bill.
