PTSG Ensures Castle’s Defences Are Compliant

Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG), via constituent company Pendrich Height Services, has completed a project delivering specialist electrical services at Caernarfon Castle.

Caernarfon Castle is a medieval fortress in Gwynedd, north-west Wales. The first fortification on the site was a motte-and-bailey castle built in the late 11th century, which King Edward I of England began to replace with the current stone structure in 1283.

The architect, Master James of Saint George, was partly influenced by a desire to make the structure impressive as a symbol of the new English rule in Wales. When the Tudor dynasty ascended to the English throne in 1485, tensions between the Welsh and English began to diminish and castles were considered less important. As a result, Caernarfon Castle was allowed to fall into a state of disrepair.

Engineers from Pendrich (PTSG Building Access Specialists Ltd) and PTSG Electrical Services Ltd conducted an external fabric inspection to the castle, which was followed by an upgrade of the lightning protection down tape to ensure compliance with current industry standards. Due to the moat around the castle, access was restricted, so PTSG’s team used rope access to perform all works.

Rope access enables PTSG’s engineers to reach every part of a building quickly, easily and safely. This technique is used in a wide range of repair, maintenance, inspection and installation projects in many sectors and is used extensively in construction and facilities management.

While PTSG’s five business divisions operate independently, they also work collaboratively on many projects. In some cases, this multi-discipline capability can resolve customers’ complete specialist services challenges.
