Welcome to MAY 2023 THE START OF SUMMER


Summer is just around the corner and in our neighbourhood you can tell by the sound of all our neighbours and the garden crews busy buzzing and roaring as an assault on what was a previously quiet day. The birds are busy chirping, squirrels and chipmunks running all over – it is a feast for the senses. As soon as the grass is cut and trimmed all the crows swoop down to see about tasty morsels before the rest of the aviary crews notice. There are art shows, music shows, boat races and just general fun things to do. Henley our labradoodle wasn’t sure about the music last night at Paddle Fest as he is kind of into Korean K-Pop bands, but it is all a welcoming sound. Summer is here and everybody tries to pack as much entertainment into their days as possible. It certainly feels like COVID is forgotten and there are a few masks here and there but


even the doctor’s office is mask-free. Everybody wants to play outside – walk, run, bike and now the newest fad I am seeing electric scooters – I have included a link in case you want to know what I am talking about. (https://apolloscooters.ca) The dogs love to chase all the people as they drive or scoot by – the fence stops them from continuing on with the game. I even went out the other evening, canes and all – didn’t think the crutches were a good

In this issue we have quite a wild mix of artists – GILLES CHAREST and LORN CURRY are wonderful figurative and still life artists. Gilles specializes in fruit of all kinds, while Lorn has an eye to mix and match unique objects together. Our special feature – TERRY GRAFF paints and sculpts very unique, colourful and


emotional WAR BIRDS. To explain them would do an injustice to the art and it is best to just turn the pages and read the article. It is vibrant and evocative.

Our Architecture Feature is WAVERLY PLACE, a gorgeous Beaux-Arts classic brownstone house that was named the “Pink House”.
