Autumn Planting Garlic
Onions, shallots and garlic need a fertile, well-drained soil in full sun.
Plant onion and shallots outdoors from Oct to Dec. 10cm apart with the tips just showing above ground, space 20cm
between rows. Plant garlic cloves so the tips are 2-3cm below the soil surface, 15cm apart and 30cm between rows. Water after planting to settle soil.
Once the leaves start to turn yellow, they can be harvested carefully with a garden fork and laid out somewhere dry. Leave until bulbs are firm and skins papery and store in cool, dry place.
