Siemens Energy has transitioned key facilities to 24/7 operations and announced a US$1 billion US investment programme, while Mitsubishi plans to double its manufacturing capacity by 2028. “Despite the rush in demand for product, the market is also hampered by specialised labour


shortages, component bottlenecks in hot-section manufacturing, and ongoing trade-related cost pressures that will continue to limit production throughput improvements,” said Tenorio. “This has all compounded the issue and will affect US power investments well into the next decade.”


Hot-section component manufacturing— particularly single-crystal blade production— remains the industry’s critical bottleneck, as these precision processes can only be performed at scale by a handful of global suppliers.


Ansaldo Energia returns to the US market after 30 years…

Ansaldo Energia has signed a contract with Pacifico Energy for the supply of eight AE64.3A gas turbines with generators for a power generation project supporting major datacentre infrastructure in Texas. The agreement represents a significant milestone for


Ansaldo Energia, marking the company’s return to the USA new-build power generation market after more than thirty years. The first deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2027. The AE64.3A is the “small” (78 MW), F-class gas turbine in the Ansaldo Energia portfolio, particularly suited to 60 Hz applications thanks to its gearbox- based configuration and dedicated generator package.


…and reports 80 000 EOH for GT36 fleet


Ansaldo Energia’s fleet of GT36 gas turbines has recently surpassed 80 000 equivalent operating hours (EOH), which the company sees as a significant milestone for its H-class offering.


The first firing of the frontrunner GT36 was in November 2022 at Edison’s Marghera Levante power plant, Italy, followed by additional units in commercial operation across Europe and Asia.


The first B1 inspection has also been completed recently at Marghera Levante, providing validation of component performance and maintenance assumptions under real operating conditions.


Karpowership expands fleet with a new powership class: Sea Lion


Karpowership has achieved a major milestone in the expansion of its global fleet with the steel-cutting ceremony for its new Sea Lion class powerships. Held at the HSG Sungdong shipyard in South Korea, the ceremony officially marked the


start of construction of the first vessel in a series of four next-generation Sea Lion class powerships. Each vessel will have an installed capacity of 300 MW and be equipped with three gas turbines in combined cycle configuration.


Measuring 136 m in length with a draft of 4.5


m, Sea Lion powerships will be deployable rapidly across a wide range of coastal locations. The four vessels are scheduled for delivery on a rolling basis between January and May 2028.


HL technology for Taweelah C


Siemens Energy is supplying HL based combined cycle technology to the 2.6 GW Taweelah C IPP project in Abu Dhabi, UAE. It is the third power plant on the Taweelah site to be equipped with Siemens Energy technology. The Siemens Energy scope of supply for Taweelah C includes three gas turbines, two steam turbines, five generators, and auxiliary systems. The plant is designed to enable the possibility


of CCUS retrofit, in alignment with the UAE’s goal to be climate-neutral by 2050. The project is being developed by the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), and an international consortium comprising Saudi Arabia’s Al Jomaih Energy and Water Company, and Sembcorp Industries from Singapore. China Energy Engineering Group Corporation is serving EPC contractor. The Emirates Water and Electricity


Company (EWEC) will be sole procurer of the electricity generated.


Meanwhile in Oman, Siemens Energy is supplying F class technology to the Misfah and Duqm IPP CCGT projects, total installed capacity nearly 2.6 GW, 20% of the country total. Siemens Energy’s scope: six F-class gas turbines; six generators; and corresponding twenty-year long-term service agreements.


Fermi selects TSK


Despite boardroom melt down, share price collapse, financial instability and fundamental restructuring, datacentre private grid developer Fermi America seems to be pushing ahead with its Matador behind-the-meter project.


It has, for example, recently announced the selection of Spanish EPC specialist TSK to deliver early works engineering for three Siemens SGT6-5000F turbines.


Fermi’s plan for the Matador behind-the- meter AI campus envisages integration of the
