Plug & play for micro hydro

VerdErg Renewable Energy has launched VETT-in-a-Box concept development, a new low-cost micro hydropower product for off-grid sustainable power

VERDERG RENEWABLE ENERGY WAS setup in 2014 to improve the cost-effectiveness of hydropower for 1-4m low-head settings without causing harm to fish or local ecosystems. Based in Kingston-Upon-Thames in the UK, the engineering firm developed and patented novel Venturi Enhanced Turbine Technology (VETT) to address two particular challenges: environmental impact, in particular on fish; and cost of energy reduction for low- head hydropower. VETT was conceived to substantially reduce low-head hydropower costs in relation to the kWh of energy delivered, improving the economics of a project with minimal environmental impact.

VETT-in-a-Box The company has recently launched VETT-in-a-Box

– a new ‘plug & play’ micro hydropower system for generating cost-efficient and eco-friendly electricity from small rivers, wastewater outflows, lock gates or canals with as little as one metre head drop and flow rates of ca. 500-2000 l/sec. It has the potential to bring electricity to the most remote, off-grid locations worldwide and replace hundreds of diesel-powered generators. Contained in a transportable arrangement, VETT-in-a-Box will offer customers quick installation and ease of use. The unit can be installed directly into a water course or adjacent to it. The assembly includes a power cabinet for direct electricity consumption, connection to a local mini-grid or grid connection.
