Jinert helps replace historic railway bridge in Sweden.
Swedish lifting and transport service provider Jinert was commissioned to help replace the Tysk Bro – a historic railway bridge in Sweden. The bridge, originally built by German engineers, spans Sweden's largest lake, Vänern, on the railway line between Vänersborg and Djupedalen. It needed to be replaced after nearly a century of service due to its age. Jinert first needed to move the new bridge
replacement segments around 500 metres from the production site to a pier where the sections could then be transported by barge to the installation site. These elements were big and heavy. The bridge bearing, for example, weighed 120 tonnes and measured 14 metres long, nine metres wide, and 11 metres high. The counterweight cantilever weighed 120 tonnes and was 20 metres high. The bridge itself weighed 147 tonnes and was 42 metres long. In order to move them safely and effectively Jinert utilised a ten-axle combination of Cometto self- propelled transporters in side-by-side mode. According to Cometto the compact design of the SPMT meant that a tight 90-degree turning manoeuvre in the hall and a tricky exit through the hall door were completed with precision. “Such manoeuvres are only possible thanks to electronic steering,” said Joachim Kolb, SPMT transport manager at Jinert. The bridge elements were moved into
position over the course of three nights. Because of this Kolb said, “Cometto Night-Light-Kit also proved to be an invaluable advantage for maximum safety”.
Once in position the bridge components were
safely loaded onto the barge via crane and then safely installed into position by Jinert.
