TRENCHLESS - NO-DIG NORTH 2026 | PREVIEW

NO-DIG NORTH 2026 PREVIEW:

North America’s trenchless tunnelling industry gathers for NASTT’s No-Dig North 2026 conference and exhibition in Calgary, Alberta, over 2-4 November.

The next edition of the North American Society for Trenchless Technology’s (NASTT) Canadian Regional Chapters’ annual No-Dig North conference and exhibition will take place in Calgary, AB, over 2-4 November. The event starts with training sessions in the form ‘Good Practices’ courses (2 Nov) before the technical programme of lectures gets underway (3-4 Nov). NASTT says No-Dig North 2026 will benefit municipalities,

contractors, consulting engineers, gas/electric utilities, pipelines and energy, industrial facilities, and those in damage prevention. It also gives scholarships to help support education in the industry.

‘GOOD PRACTICES’ TRAINING COURSES Four ‘Good Practices’ training courses are to be run in parallel on Day 1, 27 October are: ● Introduction to New Installations: A half-day course pitched at newcomers to the industry and others seeking a refresher on trenchless technology methods used in North America.

● Horizontal Direct Drilling (HDD): A full-day course looking at: operations; equipment and materials; planning; investigations, surveys, regulations and permitting; safety; risk reduction; and design.

● Cured-in-Place Pipe (CIPP): A full-day course looking at water, wastewater mainline and sewer pipe rehabilitation.

● Introduction to Rehabilitation: A half-day course for industry newcomers and also works as refresher. It covers trenchless rehabilitation of water, sewer and gas lines.

TECHNICAL PROGRAMME The technical programme runs, like prior information packed events, over two full days and across five parallel tracks (T1-5). The tracks run in each of the half-day session across the two days and are to have, typically, four presentations in each. The technical programme begins in the morning of 3 Nov with the five tracks running as follows:

Track 1 (T1) 1. Shallower, Narrower, Busier: Trenchless tunnel replacement in Edmonton

2. Inhouse 66” sewer rehab saves time and money 3. CIPP lining of Salmon Arm Foreshore sanitary interceptor 4. Vancouver’s E-Interceptor: corrosion modelling, trenchless rehabilitation and urban constraints

Track 2 (T2) 1. Emergency twinning of large diameter feedermain by microtunnelling: lessons from Calgary’s Bearspaw South project

2. Wastewater pumping station capacity investigation 3. Understanding pressure pipe rehabilitation design and needs

4. Trenchless tunnelling to keep Deerfoot Trail moving Track 3 (T3) 1. Complexity of subsurface utilities: signal interpretation and risk management

2. Floating pipes – oddity explained 3. Management of PCCP using structural trenchless renewal 4. Bonded vs Unbonded: comparing responses of liners across concrete pipe joints

Track 4 (T4) 1. Inglewood sanitary trunk project: challenges and solutions in 4.2km of microtunnelling

2. Microtunnelling in bedrock for watermain under Highway 407: innovative design and construction

3. beyond continuous shells” design considerations for segmental linings with openings

4. Sestino-Minerbio Project: microtunnelling and Direct Pipe for large diameter gas pipeline crossings in clayey soils

Track 5 (T5) 1. See past the buildup: SmartFoam condition assessment case study in Calgary

2. PACP to SPG: building a defensible risk engine for collection systems

3. Advancing trenchless infrastructure assessment: NDT for pipes, tunnels and flood conveyance structures

4. AI-driven risk scoring and rehab planning: automated condition data to trenchless delivery
