LKAB [Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara Aktiebolag] and Sandvik,” she says. “What are they doing and what are they working on – we feel it’s of huge interest to be part of Euro Mine Expo. We hope, of course, that we will be able to meet – people want to meet in person and be able to network.”
Euro Mine Expo takes place in the Skellefteå Kraft Arena, and visitors will also be able to take advantage of field trips to nearby mining sites.
mandate they needed to significantly expand the trade fair’s scope in time for the next time around, in 2010.
Since then, Euro Mine Expo has more than doubled in size, with over 2,000 participants expected in 2022 from at least 40 nations, including 200-plus exhibitors. The event takes place every second year, though it was forced to postpone the 2020 event due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. In its place, it held a digital event in 2021. “[Euro Mine Expo] has been bigger and bigger every year,” says Sinnika Sjunnesson, project manager for Euro Mine Expo at Nolia. “It’s the seventh time now that we’ll have held an in-person event – it should have been in 2020 but, of course, we had to postpone it.”

Sjunnesson remains positive regarding the possibility of Covid-19 causing issues for the 2022 event, due in part to how smoothly the 2021 digital conference went – though, of course, her preference is for everything to go as planned. “We have the exhibition and we have to follow
what’s happening in the world right now,” she says. “But we know that the main conference will be in place – but we will also send it out digitally. So, if something happens, we will be able to have a conference – even if there’s a very negative outcome with Covid. But we don’t hope so, of course.” Euro Mine Expo’s 2021 digital conference, Sjunnesson explains, was put on to help address the need that organisations were experiencing to discuss and display their projects. “People want to hear what is happening in different companies like Boliden,
A strong showing Thankfully, whatever concerns the industry might have over Covid-19 and its variants, that hasn’t affected enthusiasm for the event. As Sjunnesson says, with all the disrupt to mining industry events over the past two years due to the global pandemic, industry players are more interested than ever in being able to network and exhibit the work they’ve done. “We are very happy to announce that the exhibition is now fully booked. So, [despite Covid-19] we see that there’s a large interest to become to Skellefteå and be part of Euro Mine Expo,” says Sjunnesson. “By August, we had 80% of the exhibition sold out – so we could see that it would not be hard to get organisations to go. At the same time, we have also had a lot of interest from our sponsor partners – I think that is a sign that they think it is very important to have this place to meet in the north of Sweden, in the heart of the mining industry.” Taking place in the Skellefteå Kraft Arena, Euro Mine Expo will consist of its main conference and a range of additional seminars, along with its exhibitor innovation forum and a number of field trips to nearby mining sites where attendees can learn more about both underground and open pit mining in the region. The subject of Euro Mine Expo’s 2022 conference is firmly centred on displaying cutting-edge technology and the latest methods in the mining industry. Over the course of the event, its focus will be on fossil- free mining, automation and digitalisation, mining and society, deep rock engineering challenges, modern exploration and future mining, among many others. “It is a technical conference – I think it’s important to point that out. We have themes that we’re working with, [and] those coming to Euro Mine Expo will be able to learn the latest news in projects and collaboration around fossil free mining, automation and digitalisation, and also deep rock mining – that is something that LKAB is very good at,” says Sjunnesson. “So, when it comes to the conference, we have a number of key exhibitors who will help us provide interesting topics during the conference. We will also talk about mining and its place in society – I think it will be very interesting to listen.” Among those exhibitors includes a wide range of the top players in Sweden and northern Europe, such as Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions, Epiroc, Siemens Digital Industries Software, Metso Outotec, Normet, Fibroc and ABB. With that in mind, the event is sure to shape up to be one to remember, showcasing the very best on offer in the region. ●
