RATANA RIDE Sergeant Matt Ratana was murdered on duty in September 2020. In the wake of his death, he received plaudits for his work as an officer and his inspirational work as a rugby coach.

Matt had in July 2020. While in Germany and looking over a collection of bikes in front of them, Matt and his friend Martin Christianson calculated that the value of the bikes before them was more than their combined annual salary. It was then that Matt suggested “Why don’t we come over on cheap bikes next year, Mart? Say for around £1,000 each…” Two years later, and using bikes worth no more than £1,000, the Ratana Ride team will take part in three challenges. One of these

Martin says: “The Ratana Riders hope that our exploits, the seeds of which were planted by Matt himself, will help to keep his legacy alive. We hope that by following our hopeful highs and more probable lows we’ll inspire others to support The Matt Ratana Rugby Foundation.”
