EVEN though the bar had already been set high, 2020 promised to be a turbulent and unstable year from the outset. But little did we realise just how unstable things were going to get.
Our industry is, of course, less impacted than some others. We in the construction industry, including tool and plant hire outlets, have specifically been granted exemption from being obliged to close for the duration of the crisis.

Yet this obviously brings problems of its own. What do you do when the Government has given you the green light to stay open (which means you foot the lion’s share of the bills for closing) yet closing feels the more socially responsible thing to do? Or what if you have been able to comply with all Public Health England’s health and safety guidelines into your company’s work, and yet are receiving hostile pressure from groups on social media?
It seems to me that so many in our industry are desperate to know not only what they CAN do, but what they SHOULD do. And for that, the channels of communication have to be wide open.
