The Vintage Roots Mulled Drink for the 2021 Festivities

Whether it’s the French ‘Vin Chaud’ or the Italian ‘Vin Brulé’, we give you a mulled drink recipe every year! For 2021 we are heading to Scandinavia and the Swedish Glögg. It’s not for the fainthearted but it is monumentally delicious and sure to bring warmth and cheer to all! Thank you to swedishfood.com for the recipe, which takes a little time but is definitely worth the effort!

You will need:

1 .............. 75ml bottle of Organic UK5 Vodka (Code HEV01)

2 ..............Cinnamon Sticks 15 ............Cloves (or to taste) 1 ..............Thumb sized piece of fresh ginger, grated 50g ..........Orange peel 1 tbsp .....Raisins 1 tsp .......Cardamom pods 1 ..............75ml fruity red wine 110g ........Caster sugar 1tsp ........Vanilla sugar or essence Generous handful of almonds

With a week to go before drinking … Step One: Step Two (drink day!): Step Three:

Pour the vodka into a 1 litre container, with lid and add the cinnamon, cloves, ginger, orange peel, cardamom pods and raisins. Seal and leave for a week (if you can!).

Pour the vodka and spices into a saucepan and add the wine and vanilla. Stir over a low heat until all the sugar has been dissolved. You want the Glögg to be hot but not boiling.

Let the Glögg cool and then pour through a sieve to remove the spices. You could pour the Glögg into sterilised jars and gift it or, reheat gently and serve in a heat-proof glass with a couple of raisins and almonds.
