News Nature Rising
A new green oasis has been created at the heart of Canary Wharf with the help of the Eden Project. Eden Dock is designed to be a blueprint for urban biodiversity enhancement around the world, offering new ways to increase nature-based habitats in cities. A network of floating gardens and
boardwalks is populated with wading birds and other waterfowl, bees and eels, along with plant species rarely seen inside the M25. Biodiversity isn’t the only beneficiary – for obvious reasons office workers prefer to find work near water and green spaces. ‘Eden Dock is the first of its kind,’ said Shobi Khan, CEO of the Canary Wharf Group, ‘a best-in-practice global example of how we can support biodiversity gain in cities and pioneer places where nature and people can both thrive. It’s about creating a resilient environment that supports the well-being of our community and the environment.’ To mark the launch, a living artwork
with over 20 living figures made of ligustrum – a flowering shrub – will be dotted around the dock. Called Nature Rising, the figures show nature and people in urban surroundings living together in harmony. The figures will become part of CWG’s permanent public art collection. Becky Bennett
