ADVERTORIAL | Borderlands 3 2

3

1 THE WAY OF THE GUN

Borderlands 3 spoils you for choice with reimagined classes and even sillier guns

Format PS4, XO, PC | Release date 13 Sept | Publisher 2K Games | Developer Gearbox Software G

uns that run around on little legs. Guns that scream insults every time you fire them. Guns

that spawn volcanoes that erupt with orange lava. Guns that turn into bouncy bombs when thrown. Guns that fire hamburgers... A quarter pounder launcher

may not sound like an effective tool for wasteland protection, but it is an actual weapon in Borderlands 3. There are more than a billion of them after all. But it’s the imagination behind each and every firearm that’s really impressive. Think of the most absurd gun you can and you’ll probably find it’s already waiting for you somewhere in the vast arsenal of Borderlands 3. It’s like each weapon is the last-ditch invention of a dastardly cartoon villain.

Gear up The developers at Gearbox Software

seem to be on a mission to prove that bigger truly is better, and that philosophy extends to the four new playable Vault Hunters. Each is more powerful, with a

wider array of unlockable abilities, than any of the series’ previous classes. Forget about stationary turrets, Moze

the Gunner calls upon her Iron Bear mech for backup. Amara is similarly aggressive, but the fact she’s a Siren means she can summon huge ethereal fists from another dimension to help her pummel bandits. If you prefer to avoid the

frontline then FL4K is the Vault Hunter for you – this wandering Beastmaster lives for the hunt and sends out a menagerie of monstrous pets, including a (mostly) tame Skag, to chomp on foes. Finally, Zane is an Operative who specialises in stealth and

tricksy gadgetry. His holographic decoy is handy for

diverting enemy attention, and he can even teleport to its location to dish out devastating surprise attacks. And for the first time in the series,

you’ll be able to take your hero out across multiple planets, each overflowing with loot. Borderlands 3 is so big it’s almost ridiculous – as ridiculous as a gun that fires hamburgers.

Weapons of choice 1 Troy and Tyreen Calypso are the leaders of the Children of the Vault, an antagonistic faction within the game. 2 Would this creature even dare to attack if that gun was firing hamburgers? We think not. 3 The range of weaponry on offer is extensive, inventive, and most definitely lethal.
