A WORD FROM THE OPEC FUND DIRECTOR-GENERAL


The Annual Meetings bring together a diverse and important group of organizations and individuals – each with the potential to contribute significantly to a fairer, more equitable world. The remarkable number of events and seminars on topics as urgent and interrelated as climate change and sustainable development, gender equality, the global economy, fragile states and more has undoubtedly helped move us further toward Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.


For our part, the OPEC Fund works closely with many of the organizations that attended the Annual Meetings, such as regional development banks, the bilateral and multilateral agencies of member countries and specialized agencies


of the United Nations and the World Bank. We coordinate our action to help tackle poverty in many ways, providing finance to build essential infrastructure, strengthen social services and promote productivity, competitiveness and trade. By providing affordable development finance to countries and regions that often find funds difficult to secure, we help to solve market challenges – in a market supportive manner.


The week we spent in Washington was an essential opportunity to meet and talk with our peers and partners, and, ultimately, to take us closer to the OPEC Fund’s overarching goal: maximizing the impact of our development work across the globe.
