Will your financial aid be the same at all colleges and universities?

A student’s financial need varies by school due to the difference in cost of attendance. Need for financial aid is determined by subtracting the expected family contribution (EFC)—derived from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)—from the school’s estimated cost of attendance. If the EFC is lower than the cost of attendance, students may qualify for need-based aid. Our financial aid professionals are available to help you and your family understand the financial aid process.

Please note: When transferring to a different college, your financial aid may be impacted. Learn more about financial aid requirements at financialaid.buffalo.edu/ process/student-eligibility.

Information about transfer credits

All credits transferred into UB are considered as attempted credits and are used in calculating Satisfactory Academic Progress standards for federal financial aid eligibility and determining eligibility for state aid. Spring semester transfer students who have already completed the FAFSA for the current school year should contact the Federal Processing Center to update the school information on the FAFSA application. To update the FAFSA, add “State University of New York at Buffalo” for the school name and UB’s federal school code: 002837. You can also make updates by visiting the FAFSA website at studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. (Log in as a returning user and follow the steps to add a school.)

To make a school code change on your TAP application, you can go online by visiting your HESC account through hesc.ny.gov/repay-your-loans/my- hesc-account-access. UB’s school code is 1010. If you would like assistance in making this change, you can schedule a one-on-one appointment with a HESC Customer Communications representative at reservation.hesc. ny.gov/scholarships.
