BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND
TAPA EMEA’s Remote Virtual Auditing course continues to receive fantastic feedback and we’ll be including an article on our latest training in next month’s Vigilant. Our next event will be back by popular demand on the mornings of 16 & 17 December 2021, which will include a live audit. We welcome up to 12 people on each course so, to get in early, you can request details using this link
ON THE FAKE FOCUS
It’s always refreshing when a TAPA EMEA activity prompts a proactive response, and this certainly seems to have been the case following our recent Vigilant report on fake carriers.
It prompted a group of companies to connect and form a new fake carrier intelligence group to share experiences, information, and best practice to find out more about the number of these crimes which are occurring. This may prove to be particularly timely.
Driver shortages are at a record high, and this will continue long into the future. This is likely to steer more businesses towards other sources of drivers and truck capacity which, in turn, may increase their level of risk. With offenders producing increasingly authentic-looking driver IDs and other documentation, the task of spotting bogus operators when they turn up to collect cargo loads is becoming more and more challenging for frontline operations staff.
While we continue to stress the need to always complete thorough due diligence on all suppliers before handling over control of goods, one of the first actions of the group is likely to be guidance notes for companies to help their warehouse personnel spot tell-tale signs of falsified documents.
We have offered the group the opportunity to become a TAPA EMEA working or special interest group, and will support their objectives as much as we can. Anyone else who has intelligence to share on the activities of fake carriers, or who is interested in joining the group, should contact us using this link
NEVER TOO LATE TO REPORT INCIDENT DATA
In July, TAPA EMEA’s incident database received reports of only 82 cargo crimes. We expect more intelligence on July crimes to filter in over the coming weeks as supply chain and security managers return from their summer vacations. This, in turn, raises the question, is it ever too late to report attempted cargo crimes or product losses to us? The answer is simple. No. we always want your information!
Often, we receive months and months of intelligence from our law enforcement agency partners in one go. All of this information is assessed by our IIS Team and then added to our database because we know historical incident reports going back months all provide vital insight for companies using IIS to identify risks and plan resilient supply chains.
