VOLGA-DNEPR’S ICONIC AN-124-100 FREIGHTER HELPS TO ATTRACT 210,000 VISITORS TO AVALON AIRSHOW

Volga-Dnepr Group’s giant An-124-100 freighter was the largest aircraft on static display at the Australian International Airshow at Avalon Airport in March and helped to attract over 210,000 trade and public visitors to the six-day event, an all-time high beating the previous record set in 2001.

Airshow CEO Ian Honnery said total crowd numbers were up more than 20% compared to the last event in 2015 with 33,922 participants on the trade days and 176,742 visitors on the public days. The associated Aerospace and Defence Exhibition was just as popular, attracting a record 664 exhibitors from Australia and 25 overseas countries. Companies exhibiting at the event were exposed to more than $24 billion worth of business opportunities. The event also attracted 158 Australian and foreign delegations representing 45 countries.

The An-124-100, which was on static display throughout the airshow, was one of 634 aircraft taking part, which also included 108 military aircraft taking part from eight nations.

Axel Kaldschmidt, Global Director, Aerospace Industry at Volga-Dnepr, said: “Major international airshows like this give us the perfect opportunity to demonstrate the full range of our aerospace logistics solutions. Avalon Airport was a great place to meet customers from across the Australian and South Pacific markets. We see significant potential to increase our business in this region so giving visitors the chance

to experience the An-124-100 up close and to speak to members of our APAC commercial team about their logistical requirements was too good an opportunity to miss. We are proud to have contributed to the overall success of the event and we’re confident it will lead to more An-124-100 flights by Volga-Dnepr in the region throughout 2017 and beyond .”
