In Maryland, any stable off ering instruction, training, boarding or horse rentals is required by law to be inspected and licensed by the Maryland Horse Industry Board. Licensing ensures that the horses receive at least the minimum standards of care required by law, and ensures that the facility and equipment meet basic safety requirements. Licensing is not an endorsement of skills or experience. What kind of stable are you looking for? L: A “lesson” stable can provide instruction to individuals who do not own a horse. These lessons are provided on horses owned (or leased by) the stable. Lesson stables may off er any level of instruction, from beginners to advanced riders, but some stables specialize in certain levels of riders. B: A “boarding” stable is a place where individuals can keep their horses; boarding stables may off er fi eld or stall boarding, with full care or self care. L&B: Some stables off er both lessons and boarding.
