Maryland Will Miss...
Frank Dietz of Mt. Airy died on August 5 at the age of 71. Dietz served on the TROT Mounted Search and Rescue Team where he also met his wife Suzanne in 1992. Dietz was born in France and was a sergeant in the US Air Force, loading munitions onto fi ghter planes until 1991. In 1993, he worked as an operations manager at the Maryland Stadium Authority at Orioles Park, Camden Yard for 17 years until he retired in 2008.
Lawrence “Larry” Patrick Ledgard of Dar- nestown died on August 14 at the age of 60 from a heart attack. Ledgard owned Good Life Farm where he grew fruit and vegetables, as well as boarding horses and minis. Ledgard was born at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C, the oldest of four sib- lings. He graduated from Chaminade Univer- sity of Honolulu in Hawaii in 1982, which was
where he met his wife, Laura. Ledgard loved and cared for his many dogs, horses, goats, pigs, chickens and ducks.
Fred Tallarico died on August 28 at the age of 94. Tallarico served as the head usher at Maryland Jockey Club tracks for many years. He worked 59 Preakness Stakes, witnessing three Triple Crown winners. He was was pre- deceased by his wife Anne M. Tallarico.
Robert Lawrence Pride of Leonardtown
died on August 25 at the age of 84. Pride en- joyed horseback riding, hunting and fi shing. In 1953, Pride joined the U.S Navy and worked as an Aviation Structural Mechanic with the Department of Defense, serving in Japan, California, Texas and Maryland. He married his wife Eiko in Japan in 1963.
T. William “Bill” Calloway died on Septem- ber 7 at the age of 71. Calloway was a black- smith for 45 years and was often used by many Maryland Standardbred owners and trainers. He also owned Standardbred racehorses. Cal- loway was born in Chestertown and was raised in Church Hill and Chesterville. He married Sara Alderson in 1966.
Kaisy Lynn “KK” Knott of Mt. Airy died
on September 10 at the age of 13 after battling DIPG (brain stem glioma) for 21 months. Knott was active in 4-H clubs, the Beef, Sheep and Swine Club and Paddock Pals in Mt. Airy where she enjoyed riding. Knott attended Windsor Knolls Middle School in Ijamsville and was a member of the Westfalls Community Church. Harness racing driver Timmy Off utt helped raise funds for Knott’s treatment during this summers nation-wide Trotting 4 Charity races.
