Volunteer of the Year Mike Smallwood works for Montgomery Parks at
Woodstock Equestrian Center in Dickerson, but most equestrians see him in his super-outfi tted ATV at local events and horse shows as an EMT. He is a volunteer fi re- fi ghter and chief for the Carroll Manor Fire Company and in 2017 volunteered all his EMT services to the Maryland Horse Trials at Loch Moy Farm. T ese volunteer hours, as well as more volunteer hours at other horse trials in Area II, earned Mike the U.S. Eventing Association’s 2017 Vol- unteer of the Year award.

Senate Doors & Labradors
Krista Beal’s professional life is spent on Capitol Hill at the U.S. Senate as the Director of Doorkeepers. At her small horse farm in Boyds, called Conclusion Farm, Krista also breeds and shows Labrador Retrievers. She is also a sought-after dog show judge, and professional handler.
