Woodbine Couple Found Guilty of Animal Cruelty

T e charges include failing to provide space, shelter, suffi cient food, veterinary care and “causing un- necessary pain and suff ering.” Berry was found guilty of 11 counts while Hopple was found guilty of fi ve. Howard County Animal Control visited

Offi cials fi rst visited the property on July 10 and ob- served “several skinny horses,” as well as a miniature horse with overgrown hooves. Sun, the couple was told they had to take four of the min- iature horses to a veterinar- ian within 24 hours, trim the hooves on the specifi c miniature horse mentioned and increase the horses’ weight. On July 12, offi cers returned to the prop- erty with a veterinarian who confi rmed that the horses’ lack of weight “was a food problem, not a parasite or teeth problem.” T en on July 19, seven of the miniature horses and one don- key were impounded due to low body condition scores. Fair Hill Races to Run at Laurel On February 10, the Cecil County Breeders’

T e Maryland Jockey Club agreed to host the races this spring while upgrades to the track at Fair Hill are being completed.
