Expo Cancels, Shocking Marylanders T e Maryland equestrian community was

shocked when, on November 27, 2017, the plug was pulled on the 2018 Maryland Horse World Expo. T e resulting Facebook Equiery news posts had a chart topping, all time high record reach of over 61,000 and quite a bit of chatter (see sidebar for a sampling). Noted show president Denise Parsons in her announcement to vendors and patrons: “As you probably know, the attendance at the Maryland event has declined over the years and exhibi- tor participation for 2018 was down consider- ably from last year. Rather than hold an Expo

Maryland Horse World Expo Cancelled Equiery Facebook Comments

Holly Peverley Isaacson T is is un- fortunate. I have enjoyed going to the MD Expo for SO many years! But I understand and I might make the trek to Harrisburg now.

Emily Shiloh T is makes me so sad, I’m 18 now and I’ve been going since I was 4 or 5. I wish they would have tried to improve the expo rather than just quitting. I loved the clinics and talks. Always wished some of the ven- dors had less expensive items or even just on sale items. Weather defi nitely plays a part in deciding whether to go. However it always seemed crowded when I was there.

Cassie Carnes Hand Well, maybe if they didn’t hold it in January when it snows here, they would get better at- tendance. Many vendors didn’t want to pay to be there and then have to worry about snow causing people not to show.

Holly La Barre I wish this could’ve been held in October or November. Better weather and what a great place to do your Christmas shopping. Really going to miss this.

Terry Lawrence Riordan I feel sorry for the younger generation, I’ve been going for many years until recently. Most people now do their shopping on line

Megan Vogel T e bigger vendors that were there in the beginning left. T ose that stayed more than half were not

“horse related”. Yes we need vacations, insurance, etc. but the average horse owner does not anymore than they can aff ord the Duberry Boots. Same issue with the Washington International, it is catered to those with more money than I have.

Mindy Shartle Sather T at’s unfortu- nate but last year the ticket people were so incredibly rude and they didn’t take cards which was a hassle.

Francine D’Antuono I saw that com- ing! Well, with that said, maybe I’ll exhibit in PA in another year or two... taking a break from that show.

Jamie Porcella Sears Oh no. T is is

terrible. I have gone every year since I was 10. Now I take my girls. Ugh. Def- initely not going to the PA one. Did that once and hated

Brittany Klein I’m So sad!! T ey aren’t holding in MD anymore!

Sarah Sustersich nooo! :( We will have to go to the PA one this year

Susan Buningh Sad, but not unex- pected.

Carolyn N DelGrosso Vavala [Edi- tor’s Note: not T e Equiery’s Carolyn del Grosso] Proud to say I have been a pa- tron for many many years! Sad, so sad to see this go.

Katie Tillis We need to go up to Har- risburg now!

that would probably disappoint many exhibi- tors and attendees, we felt it was time to close the Maryland Expo permanently. T is is not a decision we made lightly and we regret having to take this action. However, we feel strongly that it is right decision for all involved given the existing circumstances.” Maryland Expo vendors were given the op-

tion of an immediate refund or moving all or part of their booth to sister-show in Pennsyl- vania, the fi rst weekend of March, which will now be known simply as the Horse World Expo. Located in the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Exhibit Center, this show is able

to off er training programs and a equestrian musical theatrical program in two large arenas (one seating 7,000 and the other 3,000). Ac- cording to Denise, they expect well over 500 vendors this year. “We want to thank the tens of thousands of attendees, the thousands of exhibitors, the many sponsors, seminar speakers and others who made the Maryland Horse World Expo possible for the past 21 years,” concludes De- nise. “We thank everyone for their support; we hope to see you in Harrisburg!”

continued...

Louise Semancik How sad. Always a fun weekend.

Shirley Chmielewski I heard the Maryland Expo was better than the Harrisburg Expo so sad

Quinn Dulany You should cancel PA and keep Timonium

Lola Cake Well this sucks - T e PA expo is not as good, much further away and you have to pay for parking. Boo

Kelly Myers Jessica Messersmith I am so sad! I remember going here with you and your mom when we were younger! cry

Veronica Lock I hope the pa on is still on! It’s way bigger!

Jessica Snyder Always wanted to go, but each year the weather would be terrible that weekend

Chelsea Sewell this kind of makes me sad. Saw it coming though

Paris Niesterowicz Too bad Marie Ferrara Wheeler Oh sad!

Lorie Richards Worse news ever!!! I go every year! Liuda Galinaitis Nooooooo! Emily Ballenger Wow, really??

Dinah Wimbrow-Warfi eld Disap- pointed :-(

Colleen Chance Sad but true. Marilyn Ketts T at is to bad Rob Bowersox Bummer Julz Lawrence So sad!! Kristen Kearns Scala So very sad! Lili Leonard NOOOOO Sam Kaiulani noooooo Elly Scholz bad news

Trish Lednum Wrzosek I feel like it’s always doomed weather wise. I dislike the Harrisburg one...plus the drive is awful. I’m sad.

Debbie Dix Williams I knew it was coming. Lack of attendance! People at this expo wanted something for noth- ing. T at’s what alot of vendors stop coming.

Darlene Michael Well it was going down hill, but was fun when we would buy all that stuff !!!

Angie Barnes Bray How disappoint- ing!

Sharon M. Loker T at’s really a shame Keri Geraghty T at stinks!

Adrienne Scalise Davidson total bummer! T e girls will be so disap- pointed.

Nikki Norfl eet Sam MacArthur looks like we’re going to PA instead!
