BIOFUELS MEET MARITIME DECARBONISATION: CONTRACTUAL IMPLICATIONS
The trading of biofuels has matured in the last 15 years due to regulatory requirements for minimum biofuel content in automobile fuel and is now being thrusted into a new arena by maritime decarbonisation.
Biofuels – commonly categorised as first (food or animal feed crops), second (non-food feedstocks including residues and other waste), and third (microalgae) generation – are increasingly used as Marine Green Fuels (MGFs)1
. Their trading raises
new issues that the existing contracts do not address satisfactorily.
