At the foot of a tufa cliff, the visitor discovers the harmonious ensemble of the Renaissance château and its formal garden. The « Terrasse Caroline », a neo-Gothic architectural “folly” built in 1830, overlooks a more intimate Italian garden. This brick and stone construction is built


onto the tufa cliff and presents the visitor with a picturesque and romantic aspect. In the castle, a remarkable coffered staircase, dating from 1542, welcomes the visitor. It is decorated with multiple motifs carved in stone, where the rich iconography of the time of François I is displayed. The caissons are all different, with plant, mythological and heraldic reliefs. To complete the visit, close to the 18th century outbuildings, in which a contemporary art exhibition is held during the summer, is a vast dovecote with its hundreds of “boulins” and its monumental ladder system.
