Emerging from Lockdown T

he first few months of 2021 have seen the global pandemic continue to influence all aspects of our work and home lives. The NHS are managing the mass vaccination programme - an amazing achievement - demonstrating the power of working in collaboration with a wide range of partners and effective strategy and planning.

Tragically, the number of COVID-19 related deaths in the UK is now in excess of 125,000 and regrettably continues to rise. We pass on our sincere condolences to everyone who has lost family and friends or suffered serious illness. All these deaths are tragic, including those working on the front line providing essential security.

As the first green shoots of spring begin and we begin to emerge from lockdown in the UK, our spring edition focuses on the impact of the global pandemic on all aspects of risk and security strategy, planning and management.

We consider how quieter offices provide the opportunity for reviewing security and making sure it continues to be fit for purpose. We also explore how lockdown offers the chance to review risk management, including the possibility of exercising staff. Then, we take a look at the return to the office with the continued complications of working with COVID-19. A blended approach of time in the office and time at home brings additional risks, not least the insider threat from those working at home and we examine how to counter this. We also review how security solutions providers can support the strategic approach to risk and resilience.

In February, we announced the winner of our Article of the Year 2020 Award: Shaun Kennedy Country President, Securitas UK for his article: Global trends driving the security market and the runners up David Mundell from Axis Security for his article COVID-19 and security: protecting our people and David Ward of Ward Security for his article Security officer as first responder. Congratulations to them and all our finalists. Full details on our website.

This is the fourth issue of City Security magazine produced in lockdown, but we do hope to see everyone in person very soon. Our website continues to have high traffic and holds over 600 security-related articles. Our social media accounts on Twitter and LinkedIn are ever growing - giving you a chance to keep up-to-date with security information.
